In February 2002, the Prevention Specialist Certification Board of Washington was established to provide professionals within the State of Washington an opportunity to receive certification in the area of substance abuse prevention. The credential being offered is the Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) credential. The certification is valid for two years and must be renewed every two years. This certification is currently optional in Washington State.

As the field of prevention evolves and advances through science, the need for knowledgeable professionals in the workforce will increase. Certified Prevention Professionals meet set standards of knowledge, skill and experience in the field of substance abuse prevention.

The certification offers a reasonable application fee ($100), examination fee ($50), re-take examination fee ($50 if needed), and renewal fee ($75 every two years).

               Applications for the credential are currently being accepted. There are four testing dates each calendar year. Testing dates are in March, June, September and December. Applications are due approximately one month prior to the test date. You may request a current application with exact dates from any of the individuals listed below.
